AMMAN — The 2019 Teacher Skills Forum was inaugurated on Friday at the Dead Sea under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania, and in cooperation with the International Baccalaureate.

The forum, titled "Agile Minds, Turning Tides", briefed participants on issues and topics its 2019 agenda plans to tackle, in addition to the role the forum plays in "enriching the educational process and the experiences of the participating teachers and leaders in education".

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, organisers said that the forum's high turnout of representatives from Arab and other foreign countries reflected the importance of the initiative in providing teachers with a chance to exchange expertise in education management on an international level.

Participants also commended the forum's role in "pushing education in Jordan and the Middle East towards international standards of excellence".

Jordanian teacher Hanin Oraiqat praised the forum for its ability to tackle a wide range of issues, which allow teachers to "improve their performance, create effective interactions with their students and aid their ability to understand the material".

Oraiqat added that Jordanian educators' broad experiences and sense of responsibility towards their students did not limit their passion for improving and learning new skills.

In another interview held with Petra, Emirati Arabic teacher Khamis Qaidi highlighted the support the forum provides for teachers and educational experts from all around the world to meet and share their experiences.

Qaidi also pointed out the significance of the forum's title, "Agile Minds, Turning Tides" in keeping up with the rapidly-changing nature of teaching methods worldwide in a way that "embraces advancement in technology and communications".

For his part, Hafs Abu Mlouh from the Ministry of Education said the forum largely focuses on strengthening the connection between teachers and students, adding that 90 per cent of the forum covers improving the students' abilities to comprehend and make the most of their classes.
