Thneibat objects to teachers syndicate meeting with House panel

By JT - Jan 27,2015 - Last updated at Jan 27,2015

AMMAN — Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat on Tuesday said the meeting that the president and council members of the Jordan Teachers Association (JTA) held with the Lower House Education Committee was unnecessary and amounts to “a coup” against the agreement they reached with Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour a day earlier, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The JTA and the parliamentary panel discussed a set of demands and agreements it reached with the government, according to MP Bassam Btoush.

Objecting to the JTA meeting, Thneibat said all these issues had already been discussed and agreed on with the premier, Petra said.

During his meeting with teachers, Ensour said it is legally and morally unacceptable for educators, as well as judges and clergymen, to go on strike, citing the harm this could cause to a large number of citizens.
