The Trade Ministry’s newly launched smartphone app offers services to consumers, business owners
AMMAN — The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply on Monday launched a smartphone application within its strategy to develop its services and enhance the use of technology, the minister, Maha Ali, said on Monday.
The application, available for free on Android and iOS platforms, targets both consumers and business owners and is the first step to automate all the ministry's services, Ali said during the launching ceremony.
Users of the application will be able to have a look at the ministry's procedures and regulations and inquire about trademarks and institutions, in addition to file complaints on violations at markets.
"The application receives complaints in an automated way that ensures the best utilisation of human resources in market monitoring," Ali told attendees who represented several stakeholders of public and private institutions, including market directors in the governorates.
She also noted that the application would enhance the efficiency of market monitors by presenting higher levels of contact with consumers.
"The ministry, in cooperation with the ICT Ministry, has identified eight of its services to be available electronically between 2016 and 2018 within the e-government project," Ali added.
These services, she said, are issuing and renewing importer card; registering individual institutions and brand names; registering trademarks; registering patents for invention and industrial fees; company registration; renewing insurance licences; registering agents and commercial partners; and services of presenting awards.
Yousef Abed, representative of the developing company Echo Technology, said the app offers awareness messages, a service guidebook and a section for inquiries.
"The complaint service enables consumers to attach a photo with their complaints which will be dealt with within 48 hours," Abed said, highlighting that the application automatically identifies the complaint's location through GPS.
