AMMAN — Calm was restored in a town in Madaba Governorate on Saturday, a day after the alleged murder of a man by his relative, official sources said.

The victim, Muhanad A., 26, was allegedly shot by his cousin in Maeen area in Madaba Governorate, 30km southwest of Amman, as he was closing his store, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The suspect and another individual, a military personnel, reportedly fired four rounds at the victim from their vehicle, then sped off, a senior judicial source said.

Criminal Court Prosecutor Suleiman Hawasheh charged the suspect with one count of premeditated murder, the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

The second suspect is currently being questioned by a military prosecutor and will be charged and tried separately, according to the judicial source.

The motive behind the shooting incident is being investigated by the authorities, the judicial source added.

The victim’s body was transferred to Madaba National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, a senior medical source said.

“The victim will undergo an autopsy on Sunday, once his family come and officially identifies him,” the medical source told The Jordan Times, adding that the victim suffered from “multiple bullet wounds to different parts of his body based on initial examination of the body”.

The victim will be laid to rest on Sunday according to a close source of the victim.

Minor acts of arson and vandalism on local houses and shops were reported following the murder of the young man, and gendarmerie was called in to contain the situation, a second source told The Jordan Times.
