AMMAN — University of Jordan (UJ) President Nathir Obeidat on Monday met with a Chinese delegation representing a youth entrepreneurship management committee for Arab countries to discuss prospects for cooperation and knowledge exchange.

The meeting followed the signing of a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MoU) in May with the China-Arab States Technology Transfer Centre, which outlined collaboration in a number of areas, including medicine, agriculture and engineering.

Talks during the meeting covered the establishment of centres on the university campus, focusing on the maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles and mobile devices. In addition, they discussed strategies to attract Chinese students, particularly those interested in studying the Arabic language.

The delegation also visited Jordan University Hospital, where the delegation met with the hospital’s director and deputies.

The signed agreement aims to channel Chinese technological advances and smart applications into various sectors, in addition to improving partnerships in medical education and developing joint academic and vocational programmes.

The agreement also entails the establishment of artificial intelligence and e-vehicle maintenance laboratories in collaboration with leading Chinese automotive companies.

The partnership also provides for the establishment of a smartphone maintenance centre.
