UNHCR to open regional office in Jordan

AMMAN — The UNHCR will open a regional office in Jordan under an agreement signed on Thursday by Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Amin Awad, the UN organisation’s director for MENA operations.
The regional office aims to coordinate UNHCR’s activities in the MENA region with the agency’s national bureau in Amman.
Judeh said the presence of UN offices in Amman is a testimony of the international community’s confidence in Jordan’s stability and security, adding that the ministry is currently reviewing applications by many UN agencies requesting to establish headquarters and regional centres in Jordan.
