University transport companies urged to abide by health measures

AMMAN — Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) Director General Salah Louzi highlighted the need for university transport companies to adhere to safety guidelines in curbing the spread of the coronavirus as students exempted from online education system return to the campus.

University transport companies are responsible for implementing health measures as the seating capacity has been reduced to 75 per cent, Louzi said in a statement sent to The Jordan Times on Sunday.

“The LTRC has asked the university transport companies to increase the number of buses with the return of medical students,” in addition to students who have courses that require laboratory activities and workshops, Louzi said.

He added that the LTRC would conduct regular inspections on university buses to ensure that they are fully prepared and apply safety measures.

“Keeping everyone safe while using public transport is among our priorities,” LTRC Media and Communication Director and Spokesperson Abla Wishah told The Jordan Times over the phone on Sunday.

Wishah added that the LTRC, in cooperation with the Central Traffic Department, monitors public transport’s compliance with health measures.
