AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) is expected to officially open Wakalat Street in Sweifieh before the end of this week, when renovation work on the street is expected to be completed, GAM said on Sunday.
Amman Mayor AqelBiltaji said misuse of the street in the past had forced several merchants to leave, leading to the municipality’s decision to renovate the street.
Once work is completed, Wakalat Street will be reserved as a pedestrian and a commercial area with only a 4.5 metre wide lane for cars.
