Zakat Fund approves 9th batch of funds for indebted women

AMMAN — The Zakat Fund Board of Directors on Monday approved the 9th batch of “Sahm Al Gharimat” (funds allocated for indebted women). The batch will pay out amounts ranging between JD200 and JD1,200 to help release 53 women who were imprisoned after failing to pay back their loans.

The total amount donated was JD31,000, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The council also approved paying the debts of 10 inmates at reform and rehabilitation centres, under conditions accredited to cooperation with the Justice Ministry and the Public Security Department.

Since its launch, Sahm Al Gharimat has paid the loans of 540 indebted women and 38 inmates at a cost of more than JD322,000.
