AMMAN — The Association of Jordan Scholars on Saturday launched its sixth international scientific conference under the title “Muslim Women in a Changing World”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The conference, supported by the Jordan Islamic Bank, featured 80 scholars from Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Qatar, Sudan, Palestine, Comoros, Oman and Turkey.

The Association’s President Abdullah Saifi called for highlighting the role of female scientists and scholars who have contributed to the political and social fields, pointing out that Jordanian society presents “a distinctive image of women to be conveyed to all participating countries”.

Executive Director of the Association Maher Aref said that the two-day conference discusses the material and moral rights Islam grants to women.

The conference will discuss issues related to women and Islamic legislation, their participation in public life, the impact of international changes on their lives, the challenges facing women, future prospects and the experiences of Jordanian women in civil institutions.
