AMMAN — A group of activists and national organisations has recently formed a civil coalition to push for a participatory and transparent state budget that meets citizens’ needs.
The Partners-Jordan coalition will also work to activate societal monitoring in preparing the budget and assess its provisions, in addition to carrying out campaigns to win the public’s support, according to a statement received by The Jordan Times on Saturday.
RajaaHiyari, activist and executive director of Partners-Jordan, said the coalition is part of a project funded by the US Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative to encourage the government’s transparent policies to support economic growth.
She underlined the importance of the coalition in building civil society institutions’ capabilities in drawing up economic policies and raising awareness on citizens’ right to access information regarding the state budget.
