Domestic revenues up in first half of 2021— Finance Ministry

AMMAN — Domestic revenues during the first half of 2021 increased by JD795 million, marking an increase of 27.3 per cent compared with the same period in 2020, the Ministry of Finance announced on Tuesday.

In a statement from the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the ministry’s figures showed that tax collections increased by JD482.7 million, registering an increase of 20.6 per cent, while non-tax revenues climbed by 54.7 per cent to JD312.3 million during the January-June period.

The ministry added that capital expenditures increased by 82.8 per cent during the first six months of 2021, standing at JD174.6 million compared with the same period of last year.

The ratio of capital expenditures to public expenditures reached 8 per cent, compared with 7 per cent and 5 per cent in 2019 and 2020, respectively. 

Actual capital expenditures during the January-June period accounted for 34.5 per cent of the capital expenditures estimated in the General Budget, compared with 17 per cent in the same period of 2019 and 25 per cent in that of 2020.

Jordan’s total public debt reached 74.4 per cent of the Kingdom’s estimated GDP, compared with 73 per cent during the same period of 2020, Petra reported citing ministry figures.
