AMMAN — The Jordan Numbering Association has launched “GOScan”, a unified e-platform that enables local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to download and exchange accurate and documented data on their products anytime and anywhere, and access them frequently, according to a Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) statement.

During a launch ceremony for the service, Jordan Numbering Association CEO Maysaloon Gammoh said that GOScan enables local SMEs to join a national electronic search platform for all local products and adopt a single source of organised, documented and updated product information to reduce time, effort and costs.

The service offers descriptive, accurate and organised product data in both Arabic and English according to what is printed on product packages, and eases the use of digital link technology to link any additional product data to more than one source, the statement said.

It also enables users to read the EAN/UPC or QR barcode printed on the product via the GOScan application, which enables them to add product pictures, videos and brochures and search for the product directly.

Gammoh noted in the statement that this service will be developed to link the product information with global data e-platform, and link those SMEs with outlets such as retail markets, as well as provide an international classification system for products.

While speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tareq Hammouri highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives to the government which focus on reducing production costs for local products, enhancing the productivity of industrial facilities to access global markets.

“There are some challenges facing local industry, but we are able to overcome them and deliver our products and services to global markets and achieve better results,” he was quoted in the statement as saying.

Hammouri also stressed the need to “keep pace” with global development and utilise the Internet in order to reach consumers easily.

He also added that data from 91 local companies that JEDCO supports through its various programmes showed an increase in exports and employment “beyond expectations”, as the number of factories and establishments in industrial cities increased by 25 per cent from previous years.

At the end of the launch ceremony, the minister honoured 50 local SMEs that participated in a programme which qualified 250 Jordanian products representing different sectors, such as food, chemicals, cosmetics, paper and cardboard, for display through various digital technology means.

The Jordan Numbering Association is a non-profit company owned by JEDCO, currently providing services to more than 2,500 Jordanian SMEs working in industrial, service and commercial sectors, according to JEDCO CEO Bashar Al Zoubi.

Zoubi added in the statement that the association assists local SMEs in providing structured and descriptive product data according to international standards that include a unified global classification system and key product data.
