AMMAN — Eleven governors on Tuesday met in the capital to discuss the role of governorates in achieving Jordan’s population and development goals, a USAID statement said.
The meeting was facilitated by the USAID-funded Jordan Communication, Advocacy and Policy Activity, in partnership with the Interior Ministry’s local development directorate.
The governors discussed how the non-declining fertility rate contributes to high population growth, posing a burden on the country’s socio-economic goals, according to the statement.
Interior Ministry Secretary General Samir Mubaideen and USAID Deputy Mission Director Chris Crowley attended the meeting.
“Family planning should be considered a means for improving women’s and children’s health, benefiting economic development and decreasing the burden on already-stretched natural resources,” the statement quoted Crowley as saying.
