House speaker, MBC chairman decorated

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday bestowed the Kawkab Order of First Class on Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh for his “distinguished contributions in public service, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty also bestowed the Independence Order of First Class on Sheikh Waleed Al Ibrahim, chairman of the MBC Group, for his efforts in developing television and radio channels at the regional level and for his distinguished contributions and achievements in improving the performance of Arab media, the Royal Court said in the statement.
The MBC Group is the first private free-to-air satellite broadcasting company in the Arab World. It was launched in London in 1991 and later moved to its headquarters in Dubai in 2002.
