Jerusalem affairs committee deplores Israeli efforts to Judaise Jerusalem

AMMAN — Secretary General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan on Tuesday stressed that the continuous Israeli efforts to Judaise occupied Jerusalem are a “real hit” to international peace and security.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Kanaan said that the occupation is giving international legitimacy and its institutions “a hard test”, where "the international legitimacy has to either prove strength in its resolutions concerned with the Palestinian issue and defending the Palestinian people or show weakness in facing the arrogance of the Israeli occupation".

He said that those who follow the crimes of the occupation and its attacks in Jerusalem, including the daily intrusions into Al Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli forces, “can notice the slow reactions by the international community and followers of double standards”.

Kanaan added that the entire world, international organisations, and those who strive for peace and legitimacy must be reminded of the more than 800 resolutions issued by the UN and its affiliate agencies regarding the Palestinian issue.

Kanaan brought up June 6, 7, 9 and 10 of 1967 when the UN Security Council issued resolutions 233, 234, 235 and 236 that called for an immediate stop to the war.

He noted that Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem contributes to preserving the Arab identity of the city and protects it against the Judaisation plots and stresses that Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif is a “pure Islamic property that has no relation to Jews”.

The secretary general stressed that Jordan, despite all its challenges and with all its capabilities, will remain the “first defence line” through direct Royal directives and follow up by His Majesty King Abdullah.
