AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Tuesday condemned the recent Israeli attacks on Al Aqsa Mosque, labelling them as counterproductive to the two-state solution.
At a meeting with ambassadors of Asian countries in Jordan, he noted Israel's use of excessive power against worshippers and the forced entry of Israeli extremists into the mosque and the surrounding compound are considered "flagrant" violations of the international law that should be stopped immediately, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Judeh underlined that the two-state solution cannot be applicable if the cycle of violence is not stopped and can become a reality only through the resumption of direct negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis with a fixed time frame.
“The talks should be accompanied by a complete halt in illegitimate unilateral measures,” he said, stressing that Jordan will combat Israel’s unaccepted acts using all means possible as part of the Hashemite leadership’s duties as the custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem.
The minister also acquainted the diplomats with the Kingdom’s stances vis-à-vis developments in Syria and Iraq.
