AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Thursday denounced the continued Israeli violations at Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, the latest of which was the breaking into the mosque by large numbers of extremists and conducting provocative acts under the protection of Israeli forces.

Ministry Spokesperson Haytham Abu Al Foul said that the Israeli acts against the mosque are rejected and denounced and represent a blatant violation to the historical and legal status quo and international law, as well as Israel’s commitments as an occupying power in East Jerusalem, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The spokesperson stressed that Al Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship for Muslims only and that Jordan-run Jerusalem and Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the only institution allowed to administer the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif.
