AMMAN — The World Bank on Tuesday said that Jordan’s performance was “good” in reducing the health impact of COVID-19 through the strict application of non-medical intervention.
The bank also expected local lockdowns, global economic slowdown, international trade uncertainties and suspension of flight operations to affect the Jordanian economy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
In its report, the bank also expected poverty rates in the Kingdom to increase in the short term. However, it pointed out that this forecast might change depending on the speed of economic recovery in the medium term and the pace of implementing the envisioned local reforms.
The Jordanian economic activity slowed down in the first quarter of 2020 due to the decline in real GDP to 1.3 per cent compared with 2 per cent in the same period of 2019.
