Jordan, Iraq discuss agricultural exports

AMMAN — Jordan and Iraq on Tuesday agreed to coordinate efforts to ensure the continuation of Jordanian exports of fruits and vegetables.
At a meeting, Agriculture Minister Akef Zu’bi and Iraq’s Ambassador to Jordan Jawad Abbas discussed continuing trade movement despite problems faced at the border by Iraqi truck drivers.
At present, 20 to 25 trucks laden with fruits and vegetables enter Iraq on a daily basis.

The country’s fruit and vegetable exports during this year increased by 7 per cent, while its sheep exports increased by 15 per cent compared to last year, a senior government official said Tuesday.
Exports of fruit and vegetables increased by 21 per cent in August compared to the same month last year, Agriculture Minister Akef Zu’bi said on Tuesday.
Jordan’s exports of fruit and vegetables during the first nine months of this year increased by 14 per cent compared to the same period last year, government officials said on Wednesday.
