AMMAN — The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) secured its first PRIMA project on Trace & Trust Hubs for MED Food (Med Food TTHubs), a university statement said on Sunday.
The project focuses on Mediterranean food products as key points in the reform of tracing and authenticity procedures of traditional Mediterranean food, adding value to high quality food products by providing documented traceability of the whole “seed-to-shelf” supply chain, through proofs of authenticity for final products and ingredients, including detailed information on the nutritional profile of the product, read the statement.
The countries involved in the project include Jordan, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Egypt and Tunisia, the statement said.
President of JUST Saeb A. Khreisat expressed appreciation to EU funding agencies for their support in modernising most of the Jordanian universities’ curricula and enhancing their teaching methodologies.
Fahmi Abu Al Rub, Jordan coordinator of the project said that the Med Food TTHubs will develop and support the operation of a “Voluntary Scheme of Traceability of MED Foods”, which will be a common protocol for the network of these hubs.
PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) is a joint programme in the frame of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, according to PRIMA website.
