King meets German army chief over defence ties

His Majesty calls Indian premier, offers condolences over monsoon loss of life

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received Chief of Staff of the German Federal Armed Forces (Inspector General of the Bundeswehr) Eberhard Zorn for talks on bilateral ties and ways to foster cooperation, particularly in the military field.

The meeting focused on regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach, according to a Royal Court statement. 

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.

Freihat met with Zorn over the latest regional developments and means to enhance cooperation in various military fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Also on Monday, His Majesty in a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed developing relations between the two countries in all areas.

Discussions over the phone also addressed the importance of building upon those distinguished relations between both countries, and expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation.

King Abdullah also expressed condolences and sympathies to the Indian prime minister over the loss of lives in monsoon floods in Kerala and around India.
