NEPCO chief calls for cutting electricity production costs

By JT - Jul 16,2019 - Last updated at Jul 16,2019

AMMAN  — National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) CEO Amjad Rawashdeh on Tuesday stressed the need to find a mechanism to cut excessive electricity production expenses.

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Rawashdeh explained that these costs accrue when owners of solar energy projects produce a surplus of electricity during the day, export it to the national grid and then retrieve it at night to avoid paying consumption costs.

He noted that this process places an additional burden on the national power grid in the evening when consumption is at its peak. Rawashdeh called for investing in electricity storage units to help stabilise the grid and mitigate accompanying costs.
