AMMAN — The Labour Ministry and Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as part of the National Employment Programme that seeks to stimulate the private sector to create more jobs for Jordanians.

Labour Minister Nayef Istitieh and Chairman of PDTRA Board of Commissioners Suleiman Farajat signed the memo, according to a PDTRA statement.

Istitieh said that the two sides will coordinate efforts to increase jobs for Jordanians in the local community within the scope of PDTRA.

The minister noted that Jordanians who are hired for the first time within the tourism industry will be subsidised by the ministry, which will offer them JD150 each month for the first six months from the date that they join the Social Security Corporation.

Farajat said that PDTRA will subsidise wages of Jordanians benefiting from the programme with a maximum number of 200 workers.
