AMMAN — Amman Mayor Aqel Biltaji on Wednesday received a petition signed by 1,300 citizens and civil society organisations requesting a sustainable public transportation system in the capital.
The signatories handed their petition to Biltaji following a demonstration they staged in downtown Amman.
Their demands included a government subsidy to the public transport system, implementing special lanes and parking areas for buses and ensuring their safety as well as enforcing a payment system for transportation fees of public vehicles.
At a meeting with the demonstrators, Biltaji promised to refer their demands to the concerned agencies for review.
