Prince Ali awarded Shield of the State of Palestine

Prince honoured for promoting sports on global stage, strengthening Jordan-Palestine ties

AMMAN — On behalf of Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on Sunday presented HRH Prince Ali with the Shield of the State of Palestine in recognition of his achievements in elevating the prominence of sports, not only within the Arab and Asian regions, but also on a global scale.  

The gesture also underscored Prince Ali’s significant contributions to strengthen ties between Jordan and Palestine.

Prince Ali, president of the Jordan Football Association and President of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF), was received by Shtayyeh in Bethlehem along with the President of the Qatar Football Association Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Hani Abu Raida, member of the Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Shtayyeh expressed his appreciation to the guests for accepting the invitation and making the symbolic visit to Palestine. He commended their unwavering support for Palestinian sports on the international stage. 

The reception and meeting were attended by dignitaries, including Palestinian Minister of Social Development Ahmed Majdalani, Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Rula Maayah, President of the Palestinian Football Association Gen. Jibril Rajoub and Jordan’s Ambassador to Palestine Esam Al Badour. 

This visit coincides with the celebration of the unveiling of the name of the late football legend “Pelé” at the Al Khader Stadium. Guests were also scheduled to attend a friendly match between the Palestinian and Jordanian Olympic teams.
