AMMAN — Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) on Wednesday was awarded the best airport in the Middle East prize within its size category, for the second time. The award given to QAIA by the Airports Council International was announced by Airports International Group’s CEO Kjeld Binger.

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Binger said the win reflects QAIA’s continuous commitment to enhancing the quality of the services provided, which include offering a more unique travel experience by providing high-tech facilities and faster transactions, adding that QAIA aims to become one of the top-20 airports worldwide.

QAIA hosted 8.4 million travellers in 2018 with the likelihood of that number increasing to 9.5 million by 2020, according to Petra, and once the current expansion is complete, the airport should be able to host 12 million travellers. In 2023, a series of new investments will push that number to 20 million, Binger said.
