AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday said that the lack of a "clear" international stance that demands the cessation of the war crimes in Gaza and holding Israel legally and politically accountable serves as a shield for the ongoing assault.

Safadi told the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Josep Borrell, in a telephone call on Sunday that "there is selectivity and bias in applying the international law," Safadi said in a Foreign Ministry statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

"The EU should take a direct position against the Israeli war crimes based on the same legal grounds and principles of human rights it had based its argument to lobby international support for Ukraine," Safadi said.

Safadi said that Israel committed war crimes, violated humanitarian and moral boundaries  and laws in its "barbaric" assault and genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the West bank, according to the statement.

"Neither the UN Security Council nor the EU requested a ceasefire as an action stemmed from their legal and moral responsibilities."

Safadi said that the "international failure" to take humanitarian and legal responsibilities against the Israeli war crimes will loom over the international affairs for a long time.
