AMMAN — Jordan and Germany on Thursday went over means to enhance economic and development cooperation.

During a meeting with a delegation from the German Bundestag Budget Committee headed by MP Claudia Raffelhuschen, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Public Sector Modernisation Nasser Shraideh said that Germany is the second biggest donor to the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Shraideh, in the presence of Planning and International Cooperation Minister Zeina Toukan, said that Berlin pledged to offer new development assistance to Jordan with a value of 413.9 million euros in 2022 and 2023.

He also expressed the Kingdom's appreciation to Germany for the assistance that contributed to implementing many development projects, particularly in the water, education, training and vocational education sectors, as well as assistance to meet the needs of Syrian refugee host communities.

Shraideh noted that Jordan's fiscal and monetary policies have maintained economic stability and Jordan has managed to develop its credit rating from stable to positive, noting that the Kingdom's inflation rate is likely to fall to 3.8 per cent in the current year compared with 4.2 per cent last year.

For her part, Toukan referred to the political, economic and administrative reform paths implemented by Jordan in light of global challenges related to climate change, increased numbers of unemployed people, the Russian-Ukrainian war, growing inflation rates, energy challenges, scarce water sources and high numbers of refugees.

The delegates appreciated Jordan's efforts to overcome the challenges it faces, expressing readiness to provide further support to contribute to growth and development and enhancing opportunities in various sectors.
