AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma attended the launch of the “Johud Al Mahabah” initiative on Sunday, as part of celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD).

The initiative, launched by members of youth committees at Princess Basma Development Centres across Jordan, aims to use social media outlets to spread messages of tolerance, love, respect and acceptance of others, while denouncing hate and violence.

The committees’ target is to reach 1 million young people in the Kingdom, and to strengthen their values of tolerance and peace, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The princess stressed the initiative’s important role in spreading values of love, peace and security, and in countering violence and bigotry.

She spoke of the need to protect those same values which have made Jordan “so distinctive as a safe haven for many”.

The princess expressed her pride in young Jordanians for their pioneering role in their communities and their ability and desire to change for the better.

She also visited initiatives and programmes at the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Institute for Development, particularly their early childhood and disabilities programmes.

The princess met with service beneficiaries, who told her of their experiences in the programmes and how they have benefited.

The princess also attended a meeting of members of a project to monitor women’s issues, launched by JOHUD and funded by USAID.
