Tourism sector suffering from lack of employees — report

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s tourism sector needs 5,896 jobs by the end of 2019, 2,369 for females and 659 for people with disabilities, a study revealed on Tuesday.

The study, titled “The gap between supply and demand in the tourism sector”, conducted by the National Centre for Human Resources Development, found a big gap between supply and demand in the sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Centre Director Abdullah Ababneh said that the demand volume in 2018 and 2019 stands at 16,009 employees, while the supply’s volume amounts to 10,118 job applications.

Ababneh said that 90 per cent of the sector’s employees are male and the total number of tourist facilities stands at 2,933, of which, 83 per cent are in the central region, 11 per cent in the northern region and 6 per cent in the southern region, providing 54,904 jobs.
