Veterinarians treat injured Arabian Oryx in Shoumari Reserve

AMMAN — A wildlife monitoring team at the Shoumari Reserve during a tour on Sunday spotted an Arabian Oryx with an injured leg, requiring the team members to report to the reserve, which sent a specialised team to treat the animal.

Reserve director Ashraf Halh said that the Oryx turned out to have an infection in its leg.

Veterinarians treating the animal gave it antibiotics and put it under monitoring in case of complications, according to a reserve statement on Monday, which added that the reserve had planned to resettle the Arabian Oryx and provide proper conditions for its reproduction.

The reserve currently has some 70 heads of Arabian Oryx, the statement said.
