Jordan’s march forward continues

May 26,2018 - Last updated at May 26,2018

The Jordanian people celebrated their country’s 72nd Independence anniversary on Friday with joy and appreciation for what the Kingdom has been able to achieve against all odds throughout its history, but particularly over the past years as our region has been witnessing conflicts and bloodshed.

Jordan’s celebrations of the occasion were launched on Thursday with the main ceremony attended by His Majesty King Abdullah alongside Her Majesty Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein. The ceremony, at Al Husseiniya Palace, was also attended by the heads of the three estates of powers, representatives of various segments of society alongside diplomats and dignitaries.

The highlight of the ceremony, which included speeches by the heads of the three authorities — the executive, legislative and judiciary — was honouring distinguished individuals and organisations for their services to their country in various fields of work.

To see distinguished women and men receive medals of honour and distinction from His Majesty the King during the celebration of our Independence Day carries more meaning than just paying tribute to these persevering people and establishments. It also tells the story of this country that was able to always withstand difficult situations and lack of resources to achieve all that it was capable of achieving through the hard work of its people who are its greatest asset. The ceremony was about the sum of the success stories of these people translated into the success story of this country over the past 72 years.

Jordanians, who have been celebrating the occasion over the past days, are aware of the importance of this national day, particularly as they look around them in this tumultuous region of ours and realise that their country’s challenges are compounded by developments beyond their capabilities. As the Jordanian people continue to counter challenges, mainly the lack of resources, they also try to extend a helping hand to others in the region and beyond.

Jordan has been a great supporter of the Palestinian people and their just cause, working to help them to establish their state on their national soil with Jerusalem as its capital through peaceful means.

The Kingdom has also been hosting a large number of Syrian refugees escaping war and destruction in their country. Of course the Kingdom would have never been able to do so without the help of its friends around the world, those who realise the great burdens shouldered by the Jordanian people in this regard.

Our country has also been extending a helping hand to others in peacekeeping missions under the banner of the United Nations, in addition to helping counter radicalism and fight terrorism all over the globe.

Jordan, God willing, will continue its message of construction, peace-building and cooperation with other countries of the world, with the perseverance of its people and the determination of its Hashemite leadership.
