Looking ahead

Oct 27,2015 - Last updated at Oct 27,2015

The celebration of the 40th anniversary of the inception of The Jordan Times is not a one-day occasion but a continuous opportunity to appraise and identify the newspaper’s mission and goal.

The story of the Kingdom’s sole English daily is therefore an evolving narrative that started in 1975 but continues to mature and develop as the years go by.

Beginning with a modest six-page black and white edition on October 27, 1975 to fill a vacuum in Jordanian journalism and geared to the foreign community in the country, The Jordan Times (JT) soon matured into something much larger and purposeful.

The JT’s growing number of pages, which stand at 16 today, soon contained in-depth analyses of relevant issues and offered constructive critiques of events in and around the country.

It is here that the newspaper excelled and developed a special profile and identity, offering readers not only accurate information and objective articles but also a dissecting analysis of newsworthy reports.

Local news was also given priority as we continue to uphold the view that the strength of the country stems first and foremost from the domestic evolution.

This goal continues to guide The Jordan Times team today as we strive to keep pace with the digital revolution and strengthen our online and social media presence.

We have attracted a multitude of readers across the globe with our website, while our Facebook page has almost 200,000 likes and our Twitter account has some 110,000 followers.

The JT will continue to develop with the changing times and serve its readership with dedication and integrity, upholding the noble ethics of journalism, and carrying out its role in conveying Jordanian and Arab news and views to all corners of the globe.
