Solidifying strong Amman-Doha ties

Feb 24,2020 - Last updated at Feb 24,2020

Reaffirming deep-rooted and brotherly bilateral ties, His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday welcomed Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani upon his arrival to Jordan on an official visit.

Discussions held later in the day at Al Husseiniya Palace covered the strong ties between the two countries and means to advance cooperation, in addition to the latest regional developments.

Topping the talks between the two leaders was the Palestinian cause and the need to support the Palestinians as they pursue their just and legitimate right to establish an independent and viable state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and international law and relevant UN resolutions.

At a time when the region is navigating through rough seas, this visit, which will invigorate the brotherly warmth between the two nations and bolster political and economic coordination, is welcomed by all.

This fact is attested by the enthusiastic reception that greeted the Qatari emir upon his arrival, as he was met by members of the Royal Family and senior government officials at the airport, and welcomed with banners lining Amman’s streets in honour of the official visit.

Sheikh Tamim’s presence in the Kingdom reminds us of the strength of our Arab and Islamic bonds.

As one of the top Arab investors in Jordan, Qatar has revealed the extent of its trust in the Kingdom’s politico-economic climate.

Qatari investments in the Kingdom's energy, real estate and banking sectors have reached $2 billion, while its investments in the Amman Stock Exchange total $1.1 billion, to take the third place among Arab countries investing in Amman’s bourse.

Trade between the two nations has also been growing, with trade exchange between Amman and Doha improving in 2018 to reach $263 million.

As unemployment continues to top the Kingdom’s economic concerns, Doha introduced an initiative designed to provide 10,000 jobs for Jordanians in Qatar.

These are just some of the many facets illuminating the deep-rooted and extensive cooperation that Amman and Doha enjoy.

His Majesty’s talks with the Sheikh Tamim will surely bear great fruit in the coming season, through boosting growing Amman-Doha economic ties and political relations, as well as strengthening the people of both nations to stand firm in the face of regional challenges.

This significant visit on the part of the Qatari emir is bound to usher in increasing cooperation, and is a heartening development for the Umma (Arab and Islamic worlds).
