Working towards a better future

Sep 17,2014 - Last updated at Sep 17,2014

His Majesty King Abdullah’s most recent meeting with the heads of the three branches of government, religious leaders and key figures is meant to dispel any notion that Jordan is wavering in regard to the regional and international efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and radicalism in the region.

The King emphasised that Jordan is actively “working to besiege terrorists and their supporters, and dry up their sources of finance. We are also harnessing all our capabilities to help conflict-riddled regional countries threatened by divisions”.

In other words, Jordan will not sit idle by while efforts to combat forces of evil and terrorism attempting to spread across the entire Middle East are being exerted.

This should make clear the fact that the Kingdom is an active and full partner in the regional and international coalition against terrorist groups and will not shirk from this national and regional responsibility.

Expressing confidence in the military and security agencies’ capability to protect the country, the Monarch underlined the fact that the fight against terrorism has security and intellectual dimensions, which warrants “working at all levels to combat extremism and contain it, based on clear plans”.

Jordan is no stranger to the evil deeds of terrorists, and it will not be caught unawares by the likelihood of any such challenge.

“We have gone a long way in fighting such a phenomenon,” said the King, citing a series of initiatives launched and efforts the Kingdom spearheaded in the last 10 years, chief among them promoting an interfaith dialogue, coexistence and tolerance.

There can be no doubt about where Jordan stands in the fight against terrorism, and it cannot be any other way.

The King’s words should put Jordanians’ fears to rest.

As he said, “we are in a strong position. I am optimistic that a better future is coming.”
