AMMAN — Acting Senate President Marouf Bakhit on Tuesday opened a three-day Arab and Asian parliamentary conference on housing, development, education and health, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Bakhit pointed out that the issues of population and development are at the “forefront” of legislations approved by Arab parliaments and holding such conferences is a "positive indicator and a step in the right direction".
He attributed problems related to population and development in Arab countries to conflicts, wars and forced migrations, according to Petra.
Secretary General of the Arab Parliamentary Forum for Population and Development Marwan Hmoud said that the region is at the "verge of a new stage of development", especially over the next few years, as a result of voluntary and forced migration in the region.
