Four Syrians die from injuries sustained across border

AMMAN — Four Syrians died at the Ramtha Public Hospital as a result of the injuries they sustained during clashes in the Syrian town Daraa.

The victims were among 25 Syrians who were being treated at the hospital, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted hospital director Yousef Tahat as saying.

The injured arrived through the border that divides the southern Syrian town Tal Shihab from Thuneibah, the closest Jordanian village to the border.

Some cases are listed in critical condition and therefore will be referred to other hospitals, Tahat said.

The hospital receives many injured Syrians every day and treats them under the cooperation agreement with the Médecins Sans Frontières under the supervision of the Health Ministry, according to Tahat.

Daraa is witnessing intensified clashes between the Syrian army and the armed opposition, the repercussions of which led to the murder of a 23-year-old Jordanian and injuring four others on Thursday in Ramtha, some 90km north of Amman, when a “stray bombshell” hit a house there.

In recent remarks to The Jordan Times, residents of the border town, just a few kilometres from the Syrian border, said they have had “sleepless nights” over the past few days due to the proximity of the intense clashes between the Syrian army and the armed opposition near the border.
