Irbid housing investors decry guest worker regulations
By Petra - May 19,2014 - Last updated at May 19,2014
IRBID — Housing investors in Irbid on Monday claimed that the sector deteriorated due to the Labour Ministry’s regulations on guest workers.
Most of the 320 housing companies in Irbid said more than 500 projects have stopped as the ministry enforced regulations limiting the number of guest workers for each company to three who cannot be employed in projects for other firms in the same governorate.
Zeid Tamimi, head of the housing investors’ society, said obligating companies to keep guest workers throughout the year has increased salary costs, forcing them to hike property prices.
